  1. In this tough economy, I am sure that it is very hard for business to decide where to spend their money. It may come down to a decision of laying people off or doing more advertising. I did watch some of the Superbowl while doing homework, and I did notice that the ads were sparser then years before and that they were definitely not as exciting, funny or attention grabbing as in previous years. Also for years, each year before the big game there is always some article or news piece on how much an ad during the Superbowl would cost a business and maybe it was just me but it did not seem like we heard a lot about that this year. Personally I think that if companies had the money that they should have tried to advertise this year. Many people were staying in and watching the game as a way to save their own money. This increase in potential customers is a great benefit to anyone that was able to advertise.

  2. Deciding not to advertise is a tough decision that can really backfire on a company. Many buying decisions are based on impressions, images, and reputations. Cutting back on ads might remove your company from your customer's mind just as he's ready to buy.
