Hi everyone,
I found this article online and found it to be a very interesting take on small business start up in this economy. The author points out some very good positives that most of us forget. I think we are always concentrating and preparing for the negatives that we forget about what we could take advantage of during a "recession".

Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting an article link AND your commentary. That is a great way to generate reader interest.
The article reminds me that businesses should always be looking for opportunities.
As long as there is commerce, there will be opportunities no matter how rough a patch the economy may be going through -- and it would seem that this is one of the worst economic times in 30, if not 70 years.
ReplyDeleteThe tough thing I think though (besides trying to start a business in an environment where lending is tight and start up capital may not be as much as we would like), is figuring out what those opportunties are.
I really did like the article that you selected. It seems everything in this world runs on a roller coaster and you need to prepare for the worst of times even when things are great. If I were a small business owner i would take advantage of these low interest rates and take out a loan and buy a bigger store to offer more product. Look at walmart they are still expanding and capturing the entire market place, where as their rivals Sears and target are looking to close multiple stores.
ReplyDeleteThis article makes you realize that even during a downswing in the economy that you must always keep your wits and make the most of it. Real estate is cheap, workers are desperate, and eventually the economy will turn around. Use this time to your advantage.
ReplyDeleteNice article. The advantage of small business is focus and responsiveness. Too often the "big ships" can't turn fast enough to respond. A small business can be spawned quickly and be up and running before the big guys.
